Eczema: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Eczema is one of the varieties of dermatitis. If we break down the word dermatitis it would mean inflammation of the skin, as ‘derma’ means skin and ‘titis’, is inflammation. Eczema causes, rough, dry, red, and itchy skin. It can be triggered by many causes like asthma and allergies to certain things or food. Eczema occurs when the skin barrier gets damaged and becomes extremely sensitive to external factors.

Although it is important to remember that eczema is not a contagious skin disease and doesn’t happen because of dirty or infected skin. It is completely a medical condition of the skin that needs to be healed by the dermatologist.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is way too common in the United States of America, as it affects 15 million people every year there. It can affect both males and females or people who have allergic issues and another dermatitis history in their family. As eczema, to some extent is considered to be genetic.

Eczema can affect any part of your body, mostly it affects the elbow, neck, shoulder, ankles, legs, arms, eyes. Eczema is a common skin condition among the:

● Females
● Teenagers
● If you have asthma
● You are prone to allergies
● You have a history of hay fever
● Genetic reason

There is some misconception that eczema is painful. That is not true. Eczema can cause redness and itchy skin and can be a big annoyance to your daily tasks. But eczema is generally not painful.

Eczema is not contagious and doesn’t harm your organs or any part of your body. It is itchy and causes your skin to get dry and rough.

Causes of Eczema?

Genetic history: Most dermatitis is related to family history. You can become prone to eczema if you have a history of skin inflammation in your family. If you see some abnormal itchiness and redness you are required to consult one dermatologist.

Sensitive skin: Some people suffer eczema because of their surroundings and workplace. If your surroundings and workplace expose you to dirt and pollution then your skin might get affected due to that. As sensitive skins are more prone to allergic reactions.

Immunity: People with low immunity suffer issues related to skin. As the skin doesn’t get enough nutrients and can be easily triggered by external factors that can lead to eczema.

Mental Health: Stress hormones can also trigger eczema and can cause rashes, itchy skin, redness, and many other dermatitis issues. Some mental health conditions that can lead you to eczema are:

● Anxiety
● Depression
● Maniac disorders
● Overthinking
● Substance abuse

Some Common Symptoms of Eczema

If you are suffering any of these signs then you might have eczema:

● Itchy skin
● Redness
● Rough skin
● Crusting skin
● Red rashes and bumps
● Scaly patches to your skin
● Swelling
