Those suffering from psoriasis must adhere to the doctor’s advice while the condition can be put under control and acted against by following certain things. Here are the dos and don’ts if you are suffering from the state:
1. Apply Moisturizer
Things get worse on dry skin, which is why it’s important to apply creams and lotions. Thick and oily bases work the best by trapping moisture under the skin. Also, you can get rid of scales by applying cream to them and wrapping the area with waterproof material for a couple of hours.
2. Nurture your Skin and Scalp
Avoid getting scales or patches since it would worsen psoriasis. When cutting nails, be careful so that it doesn’t create a cut. Those having scalp psoriasis can use tar shampoos on the affected areas. Bathing with soothing products daily like tar mixtures can also reduce the intensity of psoriasis.
3. Avoid Dry, Cold Climate
For some people, cold and parched climates can escalate the symptoms of psoriasis. However, hot weather can improve the state, though not every time.
4. Use a Humidifier
When the indoor air gets dry, use a humidifier to preserve moisture.
5. Don’t Use Medicines That Can Trigger Flareups
Consult your doctor about the intake of medicines, including over-the-counter ones. However, certain drugs like lithium, propranolol, and quinidine can aggravate the state.
6. Stay Away from Cuts, Scrapes, Infections, and Bumps
People with psoriasis should pay extra caution to cuts, infections, and bumps as it can cause flares, known as Koebner’s phenomenon. Additional care must be paid to shaving. It’s wise to stay aware of getting acupuncture, tattoos, insect bites, and chafing.
7. Stay Away from Excessive Sunlight
Sun’s UV rays slow the growth of skin cells. Therefore, it’s advised to stay in the sunlight for not more than 20mins at a stretch. On the other hand, certain medications can increase the sensitivity of UV rays.
Now, it’s time to kick off a cautionary routine all along!
